Washington, DC*

Bob Packwood (b. September 11, 1932) was a US senator from Oregon for 26 years. He was a member of the Republican Party but voiced support for both conservative and liberal issues, including the legalization of abortion and stricter gun laws. He was also the first Republican senator to support the impeachment of Nixon during the Watergate scandal. Packwood’s political career, however, ended in controversy over issues of character. He had just been elected to his 5th term in office when The Washington Post published an article citing sexual harassment allegations from ten women. The charges reached back to the beginning of his first term in office (1969) and grew as more women came forward. The Senate Ethics Committee investigated and threatened expulsion. Packwood resigned from the Senate in 1995 but still resides in this upper NW home in DC.
